Certified · CS-UAS

Certified — when the aircraft itself must be approved

For payloads over 25 kg, passenger transport or design-related high-risk scenarios: EU approval under 2019/945 and operation in the Certified category.

  • Type certification / design verification (CS-23, CS-25, CS-UAS)
  • Certified category instead of an individual permit per flight
  • Long timelines — strategic planning required
  • GDDC advises on feasibility and partner network
  • Distinction from LUC and SAIL levels

What is the Certified category?

The Certified category applies to systems that must be approved like manned aircraft — not merely have their operation authorised. Relevant for:

  • Mass > 25 kg without a simplified path
  • Dangerous-goods or passenger transport
  • Designs that must meet CS-UAS or comparable standards

Distinction from SAIL and LUC

| Approach | Typical use case | |--------|-------------------------| | OPEN | Standard VLOS, CE drone | | SAIL I–IV + LUC | Commercial special missions, recurring BVLOS | | Certified | Type certification of the aircraft |
